São Paulo, SP, Brazil – August 08, 2022 – Rappi, the leading Super App in Latin America, and mobile identity pioneer Incognia today announced that Rappi has selected Incognia for global fraud detection to increase in-app security strategy for LATAM. As part of this new partnership, Rappi has deployed Incognia location-based fraud detection into its courier mobile app to ensure the security of its network.

Food delivery, one of Rappi’s many verticals, is a global market and ascending especially in LATAM. In Brazil, the expenditure on food delivery reached over $8 billion in 2021, according to IFB. In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the LATAM food delivery market saw a 66% increase and is expected to grow over 20% in 2022. User-friendly apps and tech-enabled driver networks are fuelling ready-to-eat food delivery as a major industry category.

Rappi, founded in 2015, is present in  9  countries and has more than 220,000 couriers registered, and over 30 million customers. With the global pandemic, the use of on-demand delivery services has skyrocketed and fundamentally changed how consumers purchase goods. At the same time, fraudsters are exploiting the surge in demand to create new courier accounts with stolen identities, and using, renting, and selling the accounts to others, in addition to putting together collusion fraud techniques. “At Rappi, ensuring security and privacy for both couriers and consumers is our priority. Incognia is the ideal fraud detection partner for our location-based services, because of our shared commitment to user privacy and their unique location-based technology and global fraud data.” Felipe Cerqueira - Global Head Operations.

Incognia location identity technology is deployed today for advanced fraud detection in more than 200 million devices in over 20 countries. Incognia delivers to its customers highly accurate real-time fraud risk assessments based on device integrity and location-behavior, and insights from its rapidly growing fraud network and watchlists. “We are very excited about this partnership with Rappi. The delivery space is challenged with unique types of fraud that we are uniquely able to detect using our location-based technology. Working with Rappi in Latin America we are achieving reduction in fraud on their courier app. We look forward to helping Rappi secure its customers while improving the user experience.”, says Incognia’s CEO and cofounder André Ferraz.

Dealing with people’s real-time location may bring the idea of hazard, but in this case, security was designed around privacy only to receive food. In that perspective, as part of the partnership, Rappi and Incognia also encourage users to know more about authentication methods and how location and privacy can go hand-in-hand for fraud prevention matters. Opting in for location can not only assure meals will arrive in time but also are an additional layer of security, protecting user accounts, and avoiding schemes like account takeover. Also, when placing an order, users should verify the payment method to be chosen and report any request or behavior that may differ from the app policies, while Rappi and Incognia are continuously working to prevent and identify bad actors from damaging the ecosystem.
